Diagnostic Medical Ultrasound

Diagnostic Medical Ultrasound is also sometimes called sonography. Ultrasound is an imaging method that uses noninvasive high frequency sound waves to produce images of structures within your body. These images can provide your doctor in our office with valuable information to help diagnose your symptoms that brought you to see us. This exam does not involve any discomfort or pain.

The ultrasound examination is performed in our office by a certified (or American Registered) Ultrasound Technologist. Their expertise and years of experience will help your doctor understand what may be a cause for your symptom.

The different types of urologic ultrasounds that are available in our office are:

  • Kidneys
  • Bladder
  • Testicles/Scrotal

Kidney images can show their position, size, stones, masses or obstruction (not draining urine). Bladder images can show overall size and shape, full or empty, masses or wall thickness. Testicle and scrotal images can show size, blood flow, fluid in the sac, masses or dilated blood vessels. These images are useful in both regular and infertility issues.

After your ultrasound is completed, the Urologist that is caring for you, will review the results with you.
