Pelvic floor physical therapy is a specialized area of physical therapy that focuses on disorders of the pelvic floor. These disorders can cause pain, urinary and bowel incontinence, urinary frequency and urgency, constipation and pain with sexual relations. Pelvic floor disorders are not limited to women and can affect men and children too.

Our goal is to provide comprehensive care that includes strategies and interventions to promote and advance pelvic health in men, women, and children who struggle with pelvic floor dysfunctions.
Our evaluation and treatment procedures are based on our findings and the recommendations of your physician to provide the most complete and individualized treatment plan to restore normal pelvic floor function. The first visit will include a thorough initial evaluation. The therapist begins the evaluation with listening to the patient identifying their specific problems. The second part of the evaluation is a physical examination. This will include observing the patient’s posture, assessing trunk and hips for range of motion and strength, assessing joint mobility and flexibility, and evaluation of the pelvic floor either manually or with EMG.
Physical therapy treatment may include education in diet, posture and body mechanics, flexibility and strengthening exercises to correct muscle imbalances, manual therapy techniques to the pelvic floor muscles, lumbar spine, and sacroiliac and hip joint. We also may utilize various modalities to assist in pain relief such as electrical stimulation and ultrasound.
